UPDATE: 4201 Schools and the Proposed 2011-12 New York State Budget 03/14/11

TO: RSD Community FROM: Harold Mowl, Jr. RE: State Budget Update DATE: March 14, 2011
Many thanks to all who worked so hard to make the 4201 Schools Association’s rally in Albany such a tremendous success. Each of the 4201 School Superintendents and I were grateful for the many expressions of support by lawmakers for our children and our schools.
We learned yesterday that lawmakers in both houses have advanced restoration of the 4201 appropriation as follows: $90 million in the Assembly and $98 million in the Senate. Both houses have struck from their bills all of the other proposals advanced by the Governor in his Executive Budget.
It is expected that the Senate and Assembly will approve their versions of the budget plan tomorrow. The hard work of negotiating a final budget agreement with the Governor will now commence, with the goal of reaching a final deal by April 1.
Our efforts are paying off, but we are a long way from being done. Now is a good time to be sending letters and e-mails to the Governor and the Legislature thanking them for listening to us and for their support of the 4201 Schools.
I will keep you posted if there are any new updates. Thank you very much.
