Rochester School for the Deaf Elects New Board Members

Four local professionals—including a school principal, a family physician, a city school district manager, and a news magazine editor, were recently elected to the Rochester School for the Deaf (RSD) Board of Directors.

Mr. Michael Doughty has been principal of Thornell Road Elementary School in Pittsford since 2002. He is the parent of two children at RSD. Doughty holds a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo and a master’s degree from SUNY Brockport.




Dr. Michael McKee is a practicing physician at Folsom Family Medicine in Henrietta. McKee, who is deaf, earned his bachelor’s degree from Lynn University, his M.D. from University of Florida, and served his residency at University of South Carolina.





Mr. Erwin Smith is manager of Student Information Services for the Rochester City School District. Smith earned his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo and his master’s degree from Clarkson University. Smith’s son graduated from RSD.




Ms. LeeAnne Valentine, an alumna of Rochester School for the Deaf, is editor-in-chief of Deaf Rochester News and an active member of the RSD Alumni Association. Valentine attended Gallaudet University and Rochester Institute of Technology/NTID and holds an associate’s degree in Culinary Arts from SUNY Brockport.



Rochester School for the Deaf provides innovative pre-school, elementary and secondary education programs for deaf and hard-of-hearing children from 22 counties in New York State.
