The Elementary School: First through Fifth Grades

NEW! RSD Elementary News school newsletter for February 2008.

As children with hearing loss grow, services and school programming adjust accordingly to meet the needs of a developing child and their family. Rochester School for the Deaf is committed to addressing the unique needs of every student. We recognize the responsibility to support families as they consider different educational options for their child.

RSD expands the academic skills of our students in the Elementary School and provides the instructional focus students need to apply what they learn here to their everyday life.

Elementary School instruction includes: reading and writing; math and science; social studies; health and physical education; technology and computers as well as art and music. Students also continue working in English, American Sign Language (ASL), and on their speech and auditory skills development also. In addition to following the New York State curriculum for individual subjects, the Elementary School at RSD provides a rich introduction to Deaf cultural studies and a wide array of after school sports and clubs.

The RSD Elementary School is where students first experience our Subject Area Specialists. These Specialists help our instructors build the most effective lessons to help students achieve and surpass New York State learning standards.
