RSD Coaches, Team and Student-Athlete Receive National Honors 12/13/18

Wildcat’s Soccer and Volleyball Programs Recognized Nationally

The National Deaf Interscholastic Athletic Association (NDIAA) recently announced its fall athletics awards, and recognized the Rochester School for the Deaf (RSD) varsity soccer and volleyball programs for excellence.

The RSD varsity soccer team received the NDIAA 8-Man Soccer Team of-the-Year honor; Head Varsity Soccer Coach Mary Cook received the 8-Man Soccer Team Coach of-the-Year honor; and, student-athlete Thomas Coates, of Canisteo, NY, was named 8-Man Team Soccer Player of-the-Year. This is the first-time in RSD athletics history that the varsity soccer team has swept the NDIAA 8-Man Soccer honors for team, coach, and player of-the-year.

The NDIAA also recognized RSD Head Varsity Volleyball Coach Charles Palmer as its Division II Volleyball Coach of-the-Year.

Earlier this year Thomas Coates was recognized as the Deaf Digest Division II Soccer Player of-the-Year. Thomas has also been selected numerous times for the Deaf Digest All-American Soccer Team.

In addition to her honor this year, Coach Cook has been selected Soccer Coach of-the-Year in 2011, 2014, and 2016. Coach Palmer was honored as Volleyball Coach-of-the-Year in 2015, and as Basketball Coach of-the-Year in 2016.
