RSD Girls Earn Coveted ESDAA BBall Division One Championship 02/23/15

Wildcats Hold ESDAA Division One and Two Crowns for the First Time Ever

Framingham, MA – For the first time ever in the history of Rochester School for the Deaf athletics, the reigning Eastern Schools for the Deaf Athletic Association Division Two champion RSD girls’ varsity basketball team earned the coveted Division One crown in the same season.

The Lady Wildcats dominated the ESDAA Girls Division One Basketball Tournament, held February 20-22, 2015, at The Learning Center for the Deaf, in Framingham, Massachusetts.

In Rochester’s opening match-up the Wildcats defeated host TLC Galloping Ghosts 50-21. The team was led by Brianna Di Giovanni with 30 points and 11 rebounds while Felicia McGinnins and Courtney Gentzke added 6 and 5 points, respectively.

RSD faced Lexington School for the Deaf in the middle match-up. The Wildcats easily dispatched the Blue Jays 43-22.

For the Division One championship Rochester again faced Division two rival Delaware School for the Deaf Blue Hawks, which RSD recently defeated to earn the ESDAA Girls Division Two Basketball Championship.

Once again the girls from Rochester prevailed over Delaware 37-21 to capture the Division One crown.

Congratulations go out to Brianna Di Giovanni and Felicia McGinnis for making it to the Championship Tournament All-Star Team and to Courtney Gentzke for being named the championship game MVP.

The Wildcats also won the free throw skills competition and Felicia McGinnis won the knockout skills competition.

RSD girls conclude their 2014-15 season with 14 wins and 9 loses.
