RSD Giving Tree

School Staff and Community Supporters Help RSD Families for the Holidays

The Giving Tree, an annual tradition led by Rochester School for the Deaf Department of Support Services staff, provides families of RSD students with gifts of toys, clothes, books, gift cards and school supplies at holiday time.

By December 19, 2014, the Giving Tree supported 19 RSD families and 58 children, newborn to age 13+, across six counties. As many as 38 RSD staff members participated in various ways, including making donations of cash or wrapping supplies. Staff also purchased gift items, wrapped and delivered them to RSD families.

Support for the Giving Tree branched out into the Greater Rochester area. Students and staff at RIT/NTID’s ASL and Interpreter Education Department donated $350 in gift cards. The RSD Parent-Staff Association donated $200 and Sorenson VRS donated an additional $150 to purchase books for children. The Behrla Foundation provided a grant of $415 and the Batts Family donated an additional $250, in memory of William Batts, to purchase toys and additional wrapping supplies.
