Adventures in Education

An integral component of the RSD learning environment since 1993, Adventures in Education is an annual event held every October that connects students with extraordinary world explorers, scientists, and visionaries. Designed to inspire children to confidently pursue their dreams and positively impact the world, the program welcomes RSD students alongside deaf and hard-of-hearing peers from neighboring school districts for a day of immersive, theme-related learning.

Following a two-year hiatus during the pandemic, the program returned in a dynamic, condensed one-day format. Today, the event combines direct student engagement with a crucial community-building fundraiser:

  • Student Day: The visiting adventurer spends the day leading interactive, age-tailored small group sessions, presentations, and activities designed to spark curiosity and ambition.
  • Community Evening: The experience transitions into an evening community event featuring a public presentation by the speaker. The presentation is preceded by a reception where guests, patrons, and underwriters mingle with the guest of honor.

Beyond its immediate educational impact, the evening event attracts community support and vital funding for RSD. Proceeds directly support hands-on learning experiences throughout the academic year. Past adventures inspired by visiting speakers include Middle School students traveling to Montana for an active dinosaur dig alongside peers from the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind, as well as hands-on oceanographic research trips in Massachusetts.

SPONSOR ADVENTURES

When you sponsor Adventures, you do more than fund an event — you open doors of possibility for our students. Your support gives them a chance to learn directly from leaders who embody resilience, advocacy, and achievement. These moments of inspiration build confidence, cultural pride, and the belief that they, too, can change the world. Sponsorship ensures that this legacy of courage and imagination continues to enrich both RSD and the larger community.
