One goal that RSD has had for many years is to make sure that students have the opportunity to be able to learn and grow both inside and outside of the classroom. The Travel Abroad Program offers juniors and seniors the ability to gain skills over the course of two years, with the culmination being a trip abroad. In April, eight students, Teaching Assistant Jeff Pratt, and I spent 10 days between Paris, France and London, England. What the students gained during the two years of preparation and planning and then what they added to their skills and knowledge during our trip will serve them well in life, regardless of where their path takes them!

Once again, RSD participated in Gallaudet University’s Academic Bowl, a prestigious competition of the minds with the strongest Deaf schools and programs across the nation. This year marked RSD's 25th year being part of this rich tradition. Three students – Cody C., Emma K., and Mariana M. – competed with the help of their two coaches – Scott Lipitz and Sarah Stanislow.
Our two children, looking at them now and the resources they have at RSD - they have friends and adult role models that speak their language. That's huge for us.
RSD taught me more than academic skills in math, science, social studies, and ELA. I personally developed skills in independence, empathy, compassion and creativity.
Well-informed teaching and support staff who are inviting to new families who are striving to be sure they are doing the right thing for their deaf and hard of hearing children.
We needed a place that could help our daughter's growth/language development and RSD was the best place for that. It's the first and last place we looked at.
