December 12, 2019: The National Deaf Interscholastic Athletic Association (NDIAA) yesterday announced its 2019 Fall athletics awards.
In the Volleyball, Division II, category, Rochester School for the Deaf (RSD) earned its first-ever National Champion title. The Lady Wildcats were champions of their own Homecoming Tournament in September, Division II Champions at the Spikeout Tournament in October at California School for the Deaf – Riverside, and Eastern Schools for the Deaf Athletic Association (ESDAA) Volleyball Champions, at the tournament hosted by Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, in November.
RSD Varsity Volleyball Coach Charles earned the Division II Volleyball Coach of-the-Year honor, for a second year in-a-row. The honor is Palmer's 3rd overall, as a varsity volleyball coach for RSD.
In Varsity Soccer, RSD earned 8-Man National Champion honors, the Wildcats 10th National Title. They swept the ESDAA Soccer Champion Tournament 3-0 in October at New York State School for the Deaf, In Rome and took 3rd-place in their own Homecoming Soccer Tournament in September.
Varsity Soccer 8-Man National Player of-the-Year honors went to the Wildcats own Bode Aggas. He is the 14th varsity soccer student-athlete for RSD to achieve National Player of-the-Year. Since 2011, Rochester has had a National Player of-the-Year in varsity soccer every year, except 2015.
NDIAA All-American honors for RSD include: Volleyball First-Team: McKenna Girod & Julia Ott; Second-Team: Mariana Menzynski & Emma Kane; Soccer First-Team: Alex Michalek & Ben Radez; Honorable Mention: Cayne Aggas.
